A wool ribbed scarf that I made for myself.

I've discovered that wearing a scarf helps keep me warm.  After living in Phoenix for 6 years, I'm not used to cold winters.

Shopping Day!

I received some money for Christmas from a dear relative.  I originally planned to spend it on yarn from Knitpicks.  However, after thinking about it, I realized that I really needed some new clothes more.  So, today, I made a trip down the hill to Kmart in Redlands.  I was able to buy 5 long sleeve shirts, which I really needed.  I also went to Joann Fabrics and bought 3 skeins of worsted weight Wool-ease, 2 skeins of cotton, 1 skein of fun fur, and 1 Clover Soft touch crochet hook.  I had a lot of fun and stayed on budget.

I finished the first gray sock.  I really like my socks knit of Wool-ease.  They work up very quickly and are nice and warm.  I'll be knitting some more of these!

My dirty little secret!

My dirty little secret?  Well, today I finished a pair of socks made out of (looks around furtively) Wool-ease worsted weight yarn.  And I really like them so much that I cast on for another one.  I made a pair of ankle socks with a ribbed ankle.  They are warm and comfortable, just what I need for cold winters on the mountain.  I also like that they worked up quick.  I have a bunch of Wool-ease in small amounts of each color so socks are the perfect way to use it up.

And my new one:

I also cast on for the first sock of a pair with Knitpicks Essential in the Tuscany Multi colorway.  Those are fun too.  The wool-ease socks are great for when I need easy, mindless knitting.

I'm still here!

I will try to begin regular blogging again tomorrow.  This last month has been extremely hectic.  We ended up moving 3 weeks ago.  I did most of the work myself and am still trying to get organized.  I making progress slowly but surely.

I have been doing some knitting and crocheting.  I finished my clapotis and have started a lace scarf for myself.  I'm also almost finished with a pair of socks for me out of worsted weight Wool-Ease.  I thought that it might be easier to learn to knit socks using a worsted weight.  My next pair will be out of regular sock yarn.

Busy Day!

Today was a busy day.  I got a little sewing done this morning.  This afternoon, I went to look at the house in Crestline.  I like it!  Our rental agent called our landlord and he'll let us know if he'll let us out of the lease in a couple of days.  There's more to the story than I feel comfortable sharing but I will say that I HATE drama in my life.

I turned the heel on my sock.  I've got the sock love!  I was going to post a picture but my computer's being a little wonky today. So, I will post pictures tomorrow.

Mistake Scarf!

A few weeks ago I started an afghan for my daughter.  I worked on it, put it down, and then forgot what size crochet hook that I used.  I decided that it was an I hook and crocheted a couple more rows.  I then decided that I didn't like the gauge and I would restart the project.  Today, my son discovered it and decided that it would make the perfect scarf for him.  Works for me, I'm glad that the work I did won't go to waste.  So I took some pictures of him:

He will be 9 years old in a couple of weeks.  He's tall for his age.  In fact, our minister thought he was 11, lol.

He wanted to take some pictures of me wearing it.  First without my glasses:

Then a picture with my glasses:

I did some sewing today.  I made a pair of bloomers so I won't be cold this winter wearing a skirt.

I also worked on my sock:

My goal is to get it done so I can wear the pair to Tyler's soccer game on Saturday.  I froze the last time and I'm going to be prepared for this game!

Brrrrr, It's Cold!

For the last 6 years I lived in Phoenix, AZ.  It got cool in the winter and occasionally cold but not usually in November.  Today it was cold! I live in Lake Arrowhead, California which is at 5500 ft elevation.  It was very windy and the wind was biting cold.

I went to my lys knitting group that meets on Saturdays. I wasn't going to go but Matt wanted me to so how could I refuse? I was a little late and missed the opportunity to order lunch.  I had a nice time.  I worked on my Clapotis and made some good progress.  I got lots of compliments on it.

Because I missed lunch, my dh offered to take us out to dinner.  We went to an Irish Pub in Twin Peaks.  It was great except the building had no heat.  There was a fire but all the seats by it were already taken.  On a whim, I had put on a scarf and I was very glad that I had it.  I crocheted it out of Wool-Ease a couple of months ago.  It is my own pattern.

I am now a scarf convert and will be making more!

I was also inspired to cast on the mate for this:

I'm using worsted weight wool.  The pattern is one that I've cobbled together using Judy's Magic Cast On and a Fleegle Heel.  They go up to my knees and they will keep my legs warm under my skirts this winter.

I've decided to take a couple of days and sew myself some new clothes.  I have fabric to make a denim skirt, 2 knit tops, and some flannel bloomers.  I also have some wool yarn to cast on for a sweater.  My wardrobe is looking a little pathetic .....

How can I go to a yarn shop and not buy some yarn?

Not the most exciting color but I was kinda drawn to it.

I also got my first afghan blocks!!!!!

I worked on Tyler's Spiderman afghan this morning.  I will post a picture tomorrow.

Relaxing Day

I didn't get much knitting or crocheting done today.  We went to Crestline to do some shopping and drive by a potential house for us to rent.  It was a lot of fun but I was really tired when we got back.  I ended up taking a 3 hour  nap.

This evening I discovered why I was so tired this afternoon.  When I took my morning meds, I actually took my evening meds by mistake.  Ooops!

I did work on the Spiderman afghan today.  I'm almost done with the red section.

I managed to snap this picture last night:

What I'm Thankful for

Being that it's Thanksgiving, I thought that I would write what I'm thankful for.  This is something that I don't do often enough.  It's so easy to get caught up in the negative.  So here's what I'm thankful for:

  • My Family -- I have a wonderful husband, daughter, and son.  I'm very proud of each one of them and love them dearly.
  • My health -- I don't have any major health issues and I'm grateful for that.
  • My home -- We have a roof over our heads.  I'm grateful that this house survived the recent wildfires in our area.  Having lost 1 home to a fire already, I'm not eager to do it again.
  • My church -- We have a wonderful church family.
  • My dh's job -- He has a good job that he enjoys.
  • That I can and do enjoy knitting and crocheting (this is a knitting/crocheting blog after all!)
I did do a little baking today.  I made a butterscotch coffee pound cake.  Very rich and very yummy:

I also made my very first turkey!  Matt usually makes it but he talked me into doing it.  I used a turkey roaster and that was the hot ticket:

We were so hungry by the time it was done, that I didn't take a picture of the finished product.

I also did some knitting and crocheting:

This spiderman afghan is for my son.  He had been given a beautiful Spiderman quilt from Project Linus after our house fire last year.  We took it with us when we evacuated and unfortunately it got lost.  So I'm making this one for him.

I also worked on the Lucy bag. The original plan was to make the tall one with the long strap for me.  Today, when I was knitting I decided the color was more my daughter.  So I'm making the ball bag with a short strap.  I will make myself another one it a different color.

Thanksgiving Eve!

Normally on Thanksgiving eve, I spend it getting ready for the big day.  Today, however, I went to a pizza party for my son's class.  They did 3,000 math  problems to earn the party.  Parents were invited but I was the only one able to attend.  They did their sharing time while I was there and Tyler shared me   The kids asked a lot of questions.  They wanted to pass me around but I was too big, lol.

After that, we went to get my husband Matt from the airport.  The traffic was horrible which made me very glad that I live up on the mountain.  It is much quieter up here and I really enjoy it.

We may be moving soon.  A little background:  A little over a year ago, we lost our home in Phoenix to a fire.  Since then, we have lived in 2 rental houses.  Unfortunately, the owners of both houses really weren't/aren't interested in renting long term.  In April, we moved to California.  In October, we had to evacuate due to wildfires.  Afterwards, the owner of the house told our rental agency that if we wanted out of the lease, he would let us.  After discussing it, Matt and I decided that we would look for a new house and move whenever we found one.  We have 1 house that has definite promise and we're going to drive by it on Friday or Saturday.  Hopefully, this will be the last move for a long time!

I didn't get much knitting or crocheting done today.  I'm really not happy with the clog that I knit yesterday and it will be going to the frog pond.  I think that I'll be happier in the long run!

I did knit on my Lucy bag:

I had to learn the crochet cast on for this.  It wasn't difficult.  I used 2 circulars instead of DPNs and it was much easier that way.  I really enjoy using 2 circulars for small circumferences.  It is much easier than trying to juggle 4 or 5 needles at once!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
